This holiday season, the Historic Odessa Foundation (HOF) is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Historic Houses of Odessa’s annual Christmas Holiday Tours and Exhibits inspired by works of classic children’s literature.

To commemorate three decades of recreating scenes from classic literature through interpretive vignettes and displays, Historic Odessa will recreate its very first 1987 exhibit “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” also known as “Twas The Night Before Christmas,” from now until Dec. 31, 2017.

This iconic Christmas poem, attributed to Clement Clark Moore and first published anonymously in 1822, will once again be presented through historically detailed holiday vignettes throughout the 248-year old National Historic Register’s Wilson-Warner House. Guests will be invited to recite the classic poem as they tour the displays.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating 30 years of programming that has inspired and encouraged children of all ages to read and revisit classic literature,” said HOF Executive Director Debbie Buckson.

Over the years, visiting public have been treated to the literary works of Charles Dickens, Louisa May Alcott, P.L. Travers, Beatrix Potter, Tasha Tudor, Washington Irving and Lewis Carroll, to name a few.

All the Historic Houses of Odessa are open and on full festive display for the Holiday Season, including special school and family tours celebrating “A Visit from Saint Nicholas” exhibit in the National Historic Register Wilson-Warner House (c. 1769), from now until Dec. 31.

During that time, special exhibits, events and tours will be held throughout the season including: storybook trees exhibit and holiday school tours. Christmas in Odessa is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 2 and Candlelight Tours are at 7 p.m. on Dec. 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 26, and 28.
