Firefighter injured, two houses involved.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire that affected multiple homes in Dewey Beach last night.  

The fire occurred on Tuesday, March 13 at about 3 a.m. in the unit block of Sand Dune Drive, near Silver Lake. The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by Lewes, Bethany Beach, Indian River, Millville, Milton, Slaughter Beach, Georgetown and Millsboro Volunteer Fire Companies, responded to the scene to find heavy fire showing from two large single-family dwellings with fire and heat impinging on three other dwellings. The houses were all unoccupied at the time of the fire. One firefighter was transported to Beebe Medical Center and treated for a laceration of the head.

The incident was reported under control around 5:30 a.m., and fire personnel remained on scene until 10:20 a.m.

The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is continuing at this time. Damage listed at $5,000,000.
