Appoquinimink High School cadets received JROTC's Honor Unit with Distinction, an honor bestowed to less than 10 percent of high school JROTC programs.

Under the JROTC's new Program of Accreditation standards, traditional elements like drill, color guard, state classroom and JROTC department and administrative supply room areas make up a smaller portion of the overall assessment, while the evaluation of instructor portfolios, the Continuous Improvement Project and Service Learning initiatives comprise major scoring opportunities.

“This honor is the culmination of hard work by the entire Corps," said fellow Army JROTC Instructor Carl Suddler Sr. "It's an honor and a pleasure to be surrounded by such dedicated young people."

The JROTC Program of Accreditation is part of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement. Accreditation will run from 2018 to 2021.
