Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio said the blaze was reported shortly before 1 p.m., in the 200 block of West Big Woods Road near U.S. Route 13.

One person was found dead inside a mobile home after a fire Sunday afternoon south of Smyrna.

When firefighters from Citizens' Hose Company arrived, they saw flames pouring from the home.

Firefighters discovered one person who was dead inside the home.

The Division of Forensic Science will perform an autopsy. There were no other reported injuries.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office are searching for the cause of the fire.

Damage was estimated at $20,000, Chionchio said.

There were no smoke alarms in the home.

Assisting Citizens' Hose Company at the emergency were firefighters from Clayton and Cheswold, the American Legion Ambulance and Kent County Paramedics.
