State police responded to a report of a domestic assault with a possibly armed man at a home on Blackbird Station Road
Delaware State Police responded to a home between Townsend and Smyrna today for a report of a possibly armed barricaded suspect.
At about 11:07 a.m., troopers were called to a home on Blackbird Station Road for a report of a domestic assault with an unstable man in the house.
The victim, a 69-year-old Townsend woman, was assaulted by her adult son, police said. The victim was found outside of her residence by a neighbor who called 911.
The suspect went back into the residence and refused to surrender.
At 12:15 p.m., the 23-year-old man surrendered and was taken into custody upon exiting the home. He has been taken to an area hospital for an evaluation.
The victim was flown by a state police helicopter to a hospital where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives continue to investigate this incident and charges will be announced.
Blackbird Station Road is still closed as of 1:51 p.m., when the state police report was released.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel.
