Police said James L. Bouchat, 29, turned himself in after he was wanted for allegedly pointing a handgun at another driver Thursday on Route 1 near the Biddles Toll Plaza.
A Smyrna man turned himself in Friday to Delaware State Police after police announced he was wanted for a road rage incident Thursday near St. Georges.
Police said James L. Bouchat, 29, allegedly pointed a handgun at another driver Thursday at about 5:55 p.m., on Route 1 southbound, south of the Biddles Toll Plaza.
Bouchat turned himself in at Delaware State Police Troop 9 and was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 on one count of aggravated menacing. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail while awaiting another court appearance.
Police give details about the incident
Police said a 48-year-old Smyrna woman was driving south on Route 1 and as she passed through the toll plaza she saw a tan pick-up truck directly behind her.
After traveling a short distance, the woman switched lanes to the left lane and she noticed the same pick-up truck driving parallel to her on the left shoulder.
The driver and sole occupant of the pick-up, later identified as Bouchat, rolled down the passenger side window, began screaming at the woman and then pointed a handgun at her, police said.
After displaying the gun, he accelerated and was last seen driving southbound on Route 1.
The woman proceeded to a safe location, pulled over and notified police. She was able to obtain the license plate number of the pick-up as it sped away.
When checking the Delaware license plate number, police saw it was registered to a 2003 tan, Ford F-150 pick-up truck, which was consistent with the vehicle description given by the woman.
Through further investigation, police were able to link the vehicle to Bouchat and positively identified him as the driver of the vehicle who displayed the handgun.
