PAWS for People, a Newark-based pet therapy organization, will host its 10th annual Wag-n-Walk & 5K Run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 20 at Glasgow Park, 2275 Pulaski Highway, Newark.

Wag-n-Walk is PAWS for People’s biggest fundraiser of the year and this year, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the event, the theme is “PAWS makes Magic” highlighting the “many magical ways PAWS touches those in need.”

Participants can run or walk as individuals or as a team in either the 5K run/walk or 1-mile Doggie Walk; come dressed in something related and be entered to win a prize. Wag-n-Walk welcomes well-behaved, leashed dogs. Proceeds benefit PAWS programs and services.

“For 10 years, our Wag-n-Walk has offered people of all ages a unique opportunity to run or walk with their pets while supporting PAWS and the many programs and services we provide,” said Lynne Robinson, executive director, PAWS for People. “As we celebrate this significant milestone, we also recognize our fabulous therapy teams and the accomplishments they’ve achieved.”

Special prizes will be awarded for specific accomplishments, and awards will be given to the overall male/female runners, along with the top three runners in each age group. Awards also will be given to the top three male and female runners with dogs, as well as the top three male and female walkers with and without dogs.

Prizes will be awarded to various categories of the Doggie Walk.

A PAWS Party kicks off at 10 a.m. and includes activities for pets and children, live music and food plus craft and informational vendors. The PAWS Party is free and open to the public. Free “Doggie Contests” give dogs a chance to show off their skills, with prizes in categories including shortest tail, fluffiest, best trick, and best costume.
