Witness statements and home surveillance footage help police find suspect in East Frazier Street crime.

Smyrna police have charged a man with burglary after receiving tips from residents.

On March 12 at about 11:20 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of East Frazier Street after a resident reported seeing a young man entering the rear window of his home.

Officers were told that the suspect fled the home on foot after being confronted by the homeowner.

A Smyrna police K-9 team tracked the suspect, and detectives found evidence at the scene, but the man wasn't located.

After the break-in, detectives received significant help from local residents who provided statements and home surveillance footage of the suspect in the area, said Smyrna Cpl. Brian Donner.

With the evidence, detectives identified the suspect as Brian Sadler, 18, of Smyrna.

On Monday, a search warrant was conducted at Sadler’s residence. Detectives took Sadler into custody without incident and found the clothing he was wearing during the burglary, Donner said.

Sadler was charged with second-degree burglary.

He was arraigned by video in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $5,000 cash bond while awaiting another court appearance.

"Detectives would like to thank the many residents who assisted us, as their help was instrumental in solving this case," Donner said.
