Sens. Chris Coons, D-Delaware; Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina; Tim Kaine, D-Virginia; and Johnny Isakson, R-Georgia, members of the Senate Foreign Relations’ Africa Subcommittee, released a statement March 22 after Cyclone Idai hit Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Madagascar.

“As members of the Senate Foreign Relations’ Africa Subcommittee, we stand with the people of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Madagascar who are facing the devastation caused by Cyclone Idai,” wrote the senators.

“We express our grief for those who have died. Our deepest sympathies are with the thousands displaced by this tropical storm, which by some estimates is the worst disaster to ever hit the southern hemisphere,” wrote the senators.

“We will work with the Administration, the United Nations and our international partners to support immediate rescue operations and response efforts in the region to help affected communities recover,” wrote the senators.
