The Department of Transportation announced that GrassBusters Landscaping Co. of Newark will begin construction on phase two of the Townsend streetscape improvements on April 8.
The contractor submitted a bid of $693,294, the lowest of five bids received. Townsend is the project sponsor. This project is jointly funded through the Transportation Alternatives Program. For more on the Transportation Alternatives Program, call 760-2254.
The project will improve pedestrian mobility and safety with removal and replacement of curbs and sidewalks, curb ramps upgrades in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, decorative lighting, updated signage and striping and landscape improvements along Main Street from South Street to Brook Ramble Lane in Townsend.
The contractor’s work hours will be from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
Motorists can anticipate lane shifts and shoulder closures on Main Street in Townsend during the project duration. Motorists should also anticipate daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., Mondays through Fridays on Main Street from South Street to Brook Ramble Lane in Townsend. The construction is anticipated to be complete by early October, pending weather.
The contractor will place variable message boards to notify motorists and residents of the upcoming project.
