Appoquinimink scored six fourth-quarter goals to power past No. 3 Wilmington Friends 11-10 in the quarterfinals of the DIAA Boys Lacrosse State Tournament Saturday.
Cross Ferrara led the way for the Jags, scoring a team-high four goals while adding three assists in the victory. Meanwhile, John Dunbar and Zach Bowen finished with three goals apiece and Dominic Barerra found the back of the net once to round out the Appo goal scorers.
The two teams played to a 3-3 tie after one quarter Saturday before Friends outscored the Jags 4-2 in the second quarter to take a 7-5 lead into the halftime break.
Friends kept Appo off the board in the third but added to their lead, taking a 8-5 advantage into the fourth and final quarter.
In the fourth, Appo outscored Friends 6-2 to earn a trip to the state semifinals.
Noah Given made 15 saves in the cage for the Jags, holding strong after being peppered with 40 Friends’ shots on goal.
The Jags move onto the state semifinals on Wednesday where they’ll take on No. 2 Tower Hill who knocked off No. 7 Caesar Rodney on Saturday.
