Caesar Rodney advanced to the DIAA Girls Soccer State Championship game for the third season in a row, knocking off No. 3 Middletown 2-1 in the state semifinals Wednesday night.
The Lady Riders took the lead on their very first shot on goal when Jessie Prillaman scored in the 14th minute to give CR an early 1-0 advantage.
CR increased their lead to 2-0 early in the second half off a goal from Lynsy Gruwell on an assist from Prillaman.
Later in the half the Lady Cavaliers would get on the board when Rachel Finelli scored to cut the CR lead to just one but Middletown was unable to complete the comeback.
Friday will be a rematch of last year’s championship game, pitting defending champs and No. 1 seed Padua Academy against the No. 2 Lady Riders.
