The Appoquinimink Jaguars punched their ticket to the Division I Boys Soccer State Championship Game on Wednesday night, knocking off Charter School of Wilmington, 2-1.


The Jags took an early 1-0 lead when Alex Suarez scored in the 20th minute of the opening half on a shot that seemed to take the Charter goalkeeper by surprise.


Appo still led 1-0 in the second half until Jacob Ogrodnik evened things up a 1-1, scoring for the Force in the 64th minute.


Just over 10 minutes later, Matt Meadows scored on a cannon-shot into the back of the twine to put the Jags ahead for good.


No. 2 Appo advances to the DIAA Division I State title game this Saturday, taking on No. 1 Salesianum who also advanced Wednesday night after an 8-0 win over Sussex Central.


The DI championship begins Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Smyrna High School.

St. Georges Tech falls in double OT to No. 1 Indian River


The St. Georges Tech Hawks fought until the end but fell to No. 1 Indian River 1-0 in double OT Wednesday night at Dover in the Division II tournament.


After two-scoreless halves, the Hawks and Indians went to a first overtime where nothing was solved. However, in the second overtime, IR’s Johan de jesus Cordoba scored the golden goal to send the Indians to the DIAA Division II Boys Soccer State Championships Game.


The Hawks posted a 8-5-2 record this season, drawing the No. 12 seed in the DII tournament where they’d make an impressive and deep run.


First, they upset No. 5 Archmere Academy in the opening round, knocking off the Auks 2-1. In the quarterfinals, St. Georges Tech defeated another higher seed in No. 4 Newark Charter, winning 2-0 to advance to Wednesday night’s semifinals.
