Middletown opened their 2017 campaign with a 8-6 win over Delaware Military Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top half of the first, only to see DMA cut the advantage to 4-3 after one full inning. Leading 6-4 after four, Middletown tacked on two insurance runs in the top half of the fifth to take an 8-4 advantage. The Cavaliers would need the cushion, as the Seahawks struck for two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, though Middletown held on for the 8-6 victory.

Jake Walls and Kyle Schneider led the way for the Cavaliers at the plate, finishing with three hits apiece Wednesday. Meanwhile, Eric Schwar, Justin Netsch, Devin McClendon and Brandon Rohre each had two hits apiece for Middletown.

Dave Keane earned the victory on the mound, going four strong for Middletown. Luke Wooten came in for the save, pitching three innings for the Cavaliers.

Middletown returns to the diamond next Thursday at Cape Henlopen starting at 4 p.m.
