The Appoquinimink Jaguars celebrated Military Appreciation Night on Friday with a dominating 36-0 victory over the Newark Yellow Jackets.

Appo jumped on Newark early in the second quarter and didn’t look back, attack on the ground and in the air, while smothering the Yellow Jackets with a stifling defensive effort.

After a scoreless first quarter, Appo ended a scoring drive early in the second when Savion Fields followed some good blocks while making some moves of his own on a 35-yard touchdown to give the Jags a 6-0 lead.

On the first play of Newark’s ensuing offensive possession, the Jaguars forced a fumble, giving the ball back to their offense in great field position. Appo’s offense would return the favor right away thanks to a 29-yard touchdown pass from Antonio Alvarez who tossed up a perfect jump ball to Marquis Battle  to give the Jaguars a 13-0 lead in a matter of seconds.

Late in the first half Appo had Newark pinned deep in their own and and made them pay with a safety from Joshua Parsons, increasing the Jaguar lead to 15-0 heading into the halftime break.

Early in the third quarter, Fields broke off his second long touchdown run of the night, this time a 52-yard scamper to pay-dirt to put Appo ahead 22-0.

Later in the third Appo continued to pour it on, crushing the Yellow Jackets with their rushing attack. With just under six minutes to go in the quarter, Jordan Henry ran in a 20-yard score and Appo led 29-0.

The Jaguars would tack on one more score in the fourth, a Justin Henry 16-yard rushing score off a sweep leading to a 36-0 win by Appoquinimink.

With the win, Appo moves to 4-3 on the season. The Jags will be on the road next week, traveling to take on Concord Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
