The St. Georges Tech boys basketball team improved to 7-5 with an 83-71 home victory over Smyrna tonight, Jan. 4.

Nah'Shon Hyland led the Hawks with 30 points on a variety of inside and outside shots and a 13-for-14 performance at the free throw line.

The Hawks opened a 13-10 lead after the first quarter but then turned on the scoring in the second period, adding 31 points.

In a key stretch just before the half with the Hawks up by 10, Tyrese Owens hit back-to-back three-pointers to give St. Georges Tech a 42-26 lead.

The Hawks took a 44-29 advantage into the locker room, extended the margin to as many as 22 points in the third quarter and cruised to the win.

Along with Hyland's game-high 30 points for St. Georges Tech, Michael McCants scored 20, Owens poured in 11, Jaymyn Murphy netted 10, Le'Mar Wright and Blake Bryant scored five each and Kevin Paden added two.

The Hawks hit 19 of 22 free throws, shooting 86.36 percent.
