The Blue Hen Conference Flight A champion Appoquinimink High School softball team is seeded fifth in the state tournament and will host a first-round game Thursday, May 16 at 4:30 p.m.
The Jaguars, 17-1, will face No. 12 Charter School of Wilmington who went 10-7 this season. Appoquinimink defeated the Force 5-4 April 30.
If the Jags win Thursday, they will play the winner of No. 4 Sussex Tech vs. No. 13 William Penn on Saturday, May 16 at a time to be announced. If Sussex Tech wins in the first round, the Jags will have to travel to Sussex Tech. If William Penn wins, then the Jags will host the second-round game.
Caravel receives top seed with 12-5 record
Under the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association formula, the top seed in the tournament is Caravel, although the Bucs finished with a 12-5 record including a 6-5 loss to Appoquinimink May 4.
Meanwhile, Delaware Military Academy is seeded third even though the Seahawks finished undefeated at 18-0, including a 7-3 win over No. 1 Caravel and a 7-2 win over No. 2 Smyrna. Appo's only loss this year was to DMA, 8-2.
