Middletown High School is hosting St. Georges Tech in the first round of the state softball tournament Thursday, May 16 at 4 p.m.

The Cavaliers, 12-6, are seeded seventh in the 16-team tournament, while the Hawks, also 12-6, are seeded 10th.

The winner of Thursday's game will advance to the second round Saturday, May 18 against the winner of the Smyrna-Polytech first-round game. If No. 2 Smyrna wins, Middletown or St. Georges Tech would play at Smyrna Saturday. If No. 15 Polytech wins, then Middletown or St. Georges Tech would host Saturday's second-round game.

Caravel receives top seed with 12-5 record

Under the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association formula, the top seed in the tournament is Caravel, although the Bucs finished with a 12-5 record including losses to No. 2 Smyrna, No. 3 Delaware Military Academy, No. 5 Appoquinimink, No. 6 Newark Charter and No. 9 Delmar.
