The Appoquinimink High School girls soccer team is scheduled to play Caesar Rodney in the first round of the Division 1 state tournament Thursday, May 23 at 8 p.m., at Smyrna High School.

After starting the season 1-4, the Appoquinimink Jaguars soccer team has roared back, winning eight of the last 10 games to finish 9-6 and earn a berth in the Division 1 state soccer tournament.

The Jags are seeded seventh in the eight-team tournament and are scheduled to play second-seeded Caesar Rodney in the first round Thursday, May 23 at 8 p.m., at Smyrna High School, 500 Duck Creek Parkway.

Smyrna High has one-way traffic with the entrance on the west side of the school, so don't turn into the parking area on the east side of the school or you'll be driving the wrong way.

Admission is $5.

Appoquinimink has posted wins this season against St. Georges Tech 5-0, Ursuline 1-0, Concord 4-0, Newark 1-0, William Penn 4-0, Hodgson 6-0, Newark Charter 2-1, Delcastle 7-1 and Smyrna 2-1.

The Jags lost to Caesar Rodney 3-1 April 18.

If Appo wins May 23 in the rematch, the Jags will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of the first-round game between No. 3 Padua (11-3) and No. 6 Polytech (11-4), now on Tuesday, May 28 at Dover High School at a time to be announced. The semifinals were originally scheduled for May 29.

Padua and Polytech are scheduled to play tonight at Smyrna High at 6 p.m., before the Appo-CR game. One admission fee is good for both games, but once you're in the stadium you can't leave and re-enter without paying again.
