Election 2020: Important dates and deadlines in Delaware ahead of the November election

Jeff Neiburg
Delaware News Journal

The 2020 election promises to dominate national news headlines for the coming weeks and months. The election, which will take place during the global coronavirus pandemic, will be unlike any that may of us have seen before.

More ballots will be cast by mail than ever before, making it increasingly more likely that the results won't be known the night of Nov. 3.

Per a New York Times report, 102,000 absentee ballots were requested so far in Delaware as of Sept. 16. That's about 14% of Delaware's 730,000 registered voters.

Which begs the question: When do I have to request my mail-in ballot in Delaware?

Further, when is the deadline to register to vote?

Those answers and more are below in our election timeline.

October 4

The Office of Elections will begin mailing out ballots to those who requested them. If you’re sending in your ballot request in less than 30 days prior to the election, your country elections office will get your vote-by-mail ballot out to you as soon as possible.

Prior to this date, the election's office is mailing applications for vote by mail ballots to all registered voters who have not previously requested a vote by mail or an absentee ballot.
