TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON
Gluteus Maximus, er, Optimus Prime, and the Autobots return to prove that they are every bit as mind-numbingly stupid in 3-D as they were in 2-D in this unnecessary sequel directed by the talent-starved Michael Bay. The equally unskilled Shia LaBeouf returns as the boy hero you long to see crushed under Optimus’ iron foot. But, alas, no Megan Fox, who was axed after she dared compared Bay to Hitler. Megan, you’re my hero.
THE TOPP TWINS: UNTOUCHABLE GIRLS
Lesbian twins who yodel. Can’t get any more intriguing than that, which is probably why director Leanne Pooley decided to chronicle Lynda and Jools Topp’s long, colorful history of combining performing with political activism. The award-winning documentary, which includes rarely seen archival footage, home movies and interviews with some of their most loyal fans and imitators, promises plenty of laughs and a few tears once Jools finds herself in a battle with breast cancer. .
In the tradition of “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” comes this similarly themed tale about three recent high school graduates (Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, Katie Cassidy) heading off on a summer adventure in Paris. Romance and lessons in friendship ensue.
